Pitch using Lateral Motion

Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. Today I am going to talk about a very successful greenside pitch using lateral motion we teach our golf students. It starts out with a simple little idea about momentum. We are going to create momentum in the direction of the target by moving laterally with our shoulders, hips and knees, all initiate the forward motion. We simplify this motion by not cocking the wrists. We further simplify the motion by not rotating into the shot. Cocking the wrists and rotating around are unnecessary as they add energy we do not need.

This simple method makes it very easy to hit accurate greenside pitch shots.

  1. Line up for a standard shot with the ball in the middle of the stance, hands ahead, weight over on the left side.
  2. Take the club back with the arms.
  3. Initiate the momentum with the lateral motion of our shoulders hips and knees.
  4. The arms move forward with the lateral motion. The body does turn but, the turn does not create its own energy rather, the body is simply going with the flow of the lateral momentum.
