Automating Your Golf Swing

Automating Your Golf Swing

Automating your golf swing is the topic today. We’ll talk about a pre-shot routine that will help you play better. Let’s keep it very simple. Remember the object of the game is to get the golf club traveling and club face facing in the direction that we want it to go. If we can do those two things were going to hit some pretty good shots.
So, during your pre-shot routine let’s do this. While standing away from the ball, look at where you want to go and visualize your line to that position. Now, think about any one thing you are working on, for example, your position at the top or how you want to turn through, etc. Automate the feeling of the move you want to make by taking a practice swing. Now, clear your mind and simply allow swing skills that you already retain such as eye hand coordination, correct sequence, timing, etc. to occur. The knowledge is there*; trust that it is going to emerge. It’s just you the ball and the club. Take your mind off everything except getting the club face pointing at the target and golf club traveling down that line to the target.

Neuroplasticity – training changes the structure of the brain

* On the most basic level, learning a new skill or improving a skill involves changes in the brain. Each skill or action that an athlete performs involves the activation of neural pathways. The more we practice something, the more we strengthen our neural pathways, and the easier the skill becomes. Our behavioral response can become almost automatic.

The automated golf swing is most effective coupled with a pre-shot routine.
