Consistent Golf Shots using Rotational Swing Method
A rotational based golf swing is the best method I have found for producing consistent golf shots both for distance and direction. The rotational method works well because it takes away the possibility of many extra motions.
Try the rotational motion by holding a club with your arms stretched straight out in front of you at shoulder height.
Without swaying from side to side simply turn your torso and hips.
Because your arms are attached at the shoulders the club will consistently travel on the same path.
To add speed to the forward swing it is necessary to allow the trailing knee, the right knee for right handed players, to move laterally toward the right knee. The right foot will simultaneously pivot around the inside knuckle of the big toe of the right foot. It is a good idea to watch the video to get a better understanding of this knee/foot motion.
When you get into your address position and have established your spine angle you are ready to start to feel the rotational motion. Rotate in the same fashion as when you were standing erect. In this first stage keep both of your arms straight. Keeping both arms straight restricts the length of your motion but insures that it is consistent. During the second phase rotate back but allow the right elbow to fold along your right side. This folding of the right arm lengthens the swing and keeps the path of the club on track for consistent golf shots.
The spine angle at address must be maintained throughout the back swing and well into the finish to produce consistent golf shots. It is also imperative that the trailing knee and pivoting motion of the trailing foot, discussed earlier, takes place.
In a future lesson I will show you how to use the rotational motion cause a whipping motion with your wrists. This motion can dramatically increase distance and consistent golf shots.
