Consistent golf shots may be impacted by cupping.
Your consistent golf shots might be impacted by cupping. What is cupping in the golf swing? Cupping is excessive hinging of the left wrist for right handed golfers or right wrist for lefties. This excessive hinging takes place at the top of the golf swing. The back of your wrist at the top when fully hinged should be flat. If it is bowed away from the palm it is cupped.
What is the problem with cupping? There are two problems. One, the cupped position opens the face at the top of the golf swing which can cause both fades and hooks. The hook comes from over correction of the open face. If the face stays open the ball fades. A second problem is the tendency to cross the plane line at the top. Crossing the line at the top can also produce both fades and hooks.
If you do not know the source of these inconsistent golf shots it can be very frustrating. To see it try watching yourself in a mirror. If you are cupping your wrist it will be very obvious. Your bowed wrist will be apparent. It’s not too difficult to keep your wrist flat at the top. It immediately gives you the reward of more consistent golf shots.
