Good morning. Dave Cahill Here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort here in Palm Springs, California. Today in Video #2 I will be giving you a drill that will help you to use your wrist hinge to create more power in the golf swing. The first video Creating Wrist Hinge for Power covered how to create the hinge.
Here is a review. Grip the club and point it straight out in front of you. Using your left wrist point the club straight up at the sky. Now go a little bit farther back with the wrists, moving the club further towards your head or left shoulder. Do not allow your hands to separate from each other nor from the club itself. This is the kinesthetic feeling of creating wrist hinge.
Here is a drill to use the hinge. On the backswing take the club only to the 9:00 position; do not take a full swing. Now we have a little bit of a swing going, cock the wrists then cock them fully. The intention is to use the swing right here (see image 2). Do not hold the wrist to the bottom of the swing, then hit with it. Rather, intentionally use the hinge when the hands are almost even with the trailing leg (see image 3). Try to make the release of the wrist right at that point.
Wrist Hinge Drill:
- On the backswing take the club only to the 9:00 position.
- On the down swing release the wrist when the hands are even with the right thigh.
- Practice repeatedly.
