Good morning. Dave Cahill Here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort here in beautiful Palm Springs. This is the first video in a series of video about using your wrist hinge to create more power and greater accuracy. The first video covers how and how much to hinge the wrists during the backswing. To feel and create the hinge do this; grip the club and point it straight out in front of you. Now using your left wrist point the club straight up at the sky. Now go a little bit farther back with the wrists, moving the club further towards your head or left shoulder. Your wrist flexibly will determine how far back. Do not allow your hands to separate from each other nor from the club itself.

Take the club back down and create the hinge in the same way and same amount during the backswing. At the very beginning of the take away you will feel the left wrist begin to cock as you take the club back. When you get to the top of the swing the wrists should be fully hinged – exactly as in the earlier exercise.

In review it is hinge, then hinge some more keeping any separation points from happening. Remembering that kinesthetic feeling, swing back. Begin the takeaway, a little hinge of the left wrist and then we are going to go all the way up to the top creating the full hinge. Depending on your flexibility you may be able to get the club all the way to parallel. In future videos I will talk more about using the hinge.

What is the kinesthetic sense or feel?

Kinesthesia is the sense which helps us detect weight, body position, or the relationship between movements in our body parts such as joints, muscles and tendons. In short, it is the muscle sense. Kinesthetic is the adjective form of this word and has to do with the same basic sense: the sense of body awareness.
