Fundamental 2 Spine Angle

Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. Today I am going to talk about the spine angle, the second fundamental of golf. The second fundamental has to do with maintaining the spine’s angle established at address throughout the swing.

Establish your spine angle; bow over from the waist, the bottom of the spine is out, knees are bent. The angle of the spine in this position is what is referred as the spine angle. (Image 1)

So now I apply Fundamental 1 which is turning torso and hips together with Fundamental 2 maintaining the spine angle it looks like this. (Image 2)

Fundamentals 2 Spine Angles

2. Maintain Spine Angle while rotating torso and hips.

Maintain the spines position during the entire swing. On the way up I don’t come up and out of it. Keep the spine angle constant throughout the entire swing. Shortly after the club has contacted the ball you may come up out of the spine angle as it is less important to maintain the spine angle at this point.

Fundamental 2 in review: Establish your spine angle. Stay in that spine angle throughout the entire swing while rotating hips and shoulders.
