Pitch Perfect with Lateral Loaded Left
Hi, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Course in Palm Springs, CA. Today I am going to talk about a fundamental of pitching. This fundamental of pitching will ensure shot success and it is very easy to perform.
To start take your center of gravity point, the middle of your sternum, or you might refer to your lead shoulder and move it an inch or two over to the target side. For right handed golfers move left toward the target — move straight laterally in line with where you are targeting your shot. Notice this slight move to the target side loads up the left side. Maintain that loaded up position of the left side or target throughout the entire swing. This pitch shot position will help you hit the ball on the downswing instead of on the upswing. This fundamental of pitching will ensure shot success and it is very easy to perform.
In review set up as usual, move laterally with the shoulder or sternum an inch or two toward your target side and maintain that position through the pitch shot.
Hitting down on the ball will get it up in the air. A shallow angle can help to improve the quality and the consistency of the shot. Scooping or lifting the ball into the air will not result in the ball going up but instead, it will go down.
