Golf Pitching Perfection
Hi, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, CA. Today I will talk to you about a very important pitching move. In the address position center of gravity points such as the sternum and center point of the hips are moved slightly to the left so that we set up slightly over the left side. At address position the hands are a bit ahead of the ball.
Keep the hands quiet on the way through. Do not flip the hands up on the way through and do not lean the upper body to the back or right on the way through.
Motions that will help insure proper pitch performance include allowing the right heel or your trailing heel to come up off the ground. Also, allow the inside of your back knee which is the right knee for right handed golfers to travel laterally in the direction of the forward knee. It is just a very small move but very helpful in preventing errors.
In review:
- Center of gravity points are move slightly to the left.
- Keep the hands a small amount ahead of the ball.
- Keep the hands quiet on the way through.
- Allow your trailing heel to come up off the ground as
- the inside of your back-knee travels laterally in the direction of the forward knee.
You will get a nice solid pitch shot every time. TO CHECK your sternum position, set up to the ball, then hang a club from the center of your chest. See where the shaft points. Wherever your sternum is located, that’s where the bottom of the swing is going to be. The sternum position should be slightly ahead of the ball at address on the pitch shot.
