Golf Trajectory at Address
Golf shot trajectory at address can easily be changed by applying three basic principles. All three principles change the loft angle of the club at impact resulting in higher or lower golf shot trajectories.
The three golf trajectory principles for address are: hand position, ball position, and center of gravity position of your head, sternum and hips.
Hand Position
At address the further your hands are positioned in front of the ball the lower the trajectory. Conversely hands positioned even or behind the ball result in higher trajectories. Watch out for a common problem when positioning your hands in front of the ball . When moving the hands further in front of the ball it is important that you keep the butt end of the club at its original distance away from your legs. If you move your hands farther away from your legs you will tend to open the face and inadvertently create more loft.
Ball Position
At address the further the ball is placed back in your stance the lower the trajectory. The more forward the position of the ball in your stance the higher the trajectory. If the ball is too far forward in your stance it becomes difficult to contact the ball solidly.
Center of Gravity
The center of gravity positions of your head, sternum and hips at address also affect trajectory because of their influence on the loft angle at impact. If your head and sternum center points are tilted slightly away from the target and your hip is moved slightly towards the target the loft angle at impact will be increased.
When you make trajectory adjustments at address you do not need to consciously change your swing. You do not have to try to swing differently. Your body will move differently as a result of your address positions.
You can learn this skill and many others by attending a Palm Springs Golf School, Las Vegas Golf School or Minnesota golf lesson. Dave Cahill or Mike Cahill are always available to help you play better golf.
