Mastering the High Pitch Shot

Hi Mike Cahill here with Cahill Golf in beautiful Palm Springs. Today I want to show you how to hit a high pitch shot. The club I am using is an old Karsten Ping 1 wedge, probably 44 to 46 degrees of loft.

Just to review, for a normal trajectory we have the ball in the middle of our stance with our hands just toward the inside of the left knee. If I want to get a little higher trajectory I can do one of two things. I can try to add loft just by opening the club face. Open the face just a little bit, keep everything else the same and generally just swing. This approach may push the ball off a couple of yards to the right.

To increase trajectory turn the club-face open a little.

The second approach I use to increase trajectory is to come through while trying to turn my right shoulder a little bit more under than I normally would. This will help me come up on the ball just a hair. We do not want to come up much. Try it when you have a good lie.
