On Path On Plane
Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. Today I am going to talk about an easy way to stay on path and on plane during the golf swing. In previous videos we talked about the importance of how our arms move from their shoulder joints. We’ve talked about how that happens during the forward swing during weight transfer. Today I’d like to demonstrate the importance of making the correct arm shoulder motion for getting and staying exactly on path and on plane. In a recent blog post we did this drill to get the feel of the correct motion. Bring the arms straight up from address position and then relax the arms and just let the arms and club drop down to the ground. Just let the arms and club drop down to the ground. That is the motion used during the forward motion. During the weight transfer from the right side to left (right handed golfers) let the arms and club drop down. Watch where the club goes; the club travels exactly on the path necessary to hit the ball nice and square. Do not pull with the arms. Do not push with the shoulders. During the weight transfer just let the arms and club drop down to about hip height to when/where the weight transfer turn takes place. This nice fluid motion gets the club on path on plane.
