Pulling With the Left
Hi, Dave Cahill at the Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, CA. The question today is, do I create power and consistency in the forward swing by pushing or pulling? I am a strong advocate for pulling in the forward swing. But, the real question is what am I pulling and how am I pulling?
So, after we’ve taken our backswing and made our weight transfer over to the left side, now is the time we are going to pull. DO NOT take the left arm or target side arm and pull it down. Instead, the left arm and club get pulled down by using the muscles that run from the hip through the back and under the shoulder blade. The sequence is, backswing, load up over the left side, and NOW pull down, which is pulling down with the muscles of the hips, buttocks and shoulders not the arm pulling down. The slight movement of the hips turning around the lower spine is what initiates this pulling sequence.
