The Principles of Golf Review

Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf, in beautiful Palm Springs, another gorgeous day here today. Today I am going to summarize the four different principles and a couple of little additions in a quick way. The four different principles are that we rotate our hips and shoulders perpendicular to our spine to create speed power and consistency. Where ever they go the club goes. Then we said we add on our spine angle when we make that turn/rotation perpendicular to the spine. Notice where the club goes when I make my turn or rotate perpendicular to the spine. It starts out exactly down this line, stays there for quite a ways and then as I turn more it comes up on the plane angle this way. The 3rd fundamental is weight transfer over to the left side. We do that by loading up over our left foot, knee and hip. The sternum and hip both move over to the left side. Load up, stay there, and now maintain your spine angle on the way through (pivot around the lead leg). And the fourth principle was during that loading up period my arms and hands are actually going to come down – I am not trying to rotate yet – I am allowing them to drop into position. Now they are all the way down here (see video) loaded up on the left side, rotate through perpendicular to the spine. Those are the four principles/fundamentals in one short little lesson.

Principles of Golf Review

  1. Rotate hips and shoulders perpendicular to the spine
  2. Maintain spine angle throughout
  3. Weight transfer by pivoting hips around during the back swing, while coming through and around during the downswing
  4. Arms and hands drop into position during the weight transfer
