Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California. Today we are talking about hitting crisp, stable golf shots by controlling our vertical center of gravity points.

Review of Horizontal Position

In a recent video, Crisp Pitch Shots, I talked about controlling three center of gravity points on the horizontal plane. Maintain stability by keeping the point right between the eyes, the point over the sternum, and the point between the hips right below the belly button in line with each other. We don’t want one of those points getting out in front of the others. When the center of gravity line is destabilized, it will pull the points out of line. Stabilize the hips. Turn the hips back and around the spine while the hip center point remains stable and in line with the head and sternum points.

Vertical Position

Similarly, on the vertical plane maintain control of the hip center of gravity point so the hips do not slide up and down or out. Vertical stabilization of the hip center of gravity point will help keep the sternum and head points stabilized. Hold the three center of gravity points steady all the way through the ball and into the finish. Doing so will help to assure a clean balanced turn of the hips back and around the spine.

Practice

I like to take practice strokes, maintaining the vertical and horizontal position of the three center of gravity points into the finish. Do not let your hips rock forward and up or side to side. Practice stabilization of the center of gravity points throughout the swing, into the finish. Focused practice will help you hit crisp clean golf shots.
