Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf, in beautiful Palm Springs, another gorgeous day here. So I talked about four golf principles previously. Today I am going to add on a side note to those four principles. It has to do with the wrist. I did not talk about this before, but it is an important part of the Four Principles.
Our left wrist, if you are a right handed golfer extends up a very little bit as you hold the palm flat and move the thumb side of the hand towards the wrist, radial flexion. In other words I do not want to flex or extend the wrist; rather I do want to keep it completely flat. If I do that my wrist can only bend up 10 to 20 degrees.
If I over bend (my hand toward the thumb) it will start cupping. So it is a very little bend (of the wrist), almost nothing during the backswing. It extends about this much (see video or Image 3). We are not really trying to create a whole bunch of speed with the wrist, just a little bit.
At address you will notice I am in position so when I come back there is a little tiny bit of wrist radial flexion. And now I can go ahead and apply the other principles weight transfer, maintain the spine angle and rotate through.
